On Monday, July 17, 2023, Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards employees successfully consolidated the 190-tonne superstructure grand block to the hull of the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV).
Consisting of six individual blocks including the bridge, the grand block was outfitted prior to consolidation with bridge consoles and other equipment and material such as piping, cable trays and main cables to maximize build efficiency.
Following this precisely executed lift with Big Blue, our hardworking 300t gantry crane, the hull of the OOSV is well on its way to achieving structural consolidation by the end of the year. At 8.8 m high, the addition of the superstructure grand block brings the vessel to its current height of 24m.
We’re proud of the dedication and skill of our team, which resulted in the successful completion of this construction milestone. Thanks to you, we are now one step closer to delivering this densely outfitted multi-task vessel which, once delivered, will enable the Canadian Coast Guard and Fisheries and Oceans Canada to conduct important scientific research on the impact of climate change on the oceans.
